As global concern about the current COVID-19 outbreak grows, we must do our best to keep everyone healthy and safe in the workplace while also minimizing the disruptions to our day-to-day operations.
Misinformation and fear can spread more virulently than the virus itself, and we want to discourage false information from circulating. If you’re looking for trusted, up-to-date information, we recommend visiting the specific coronavirus websites of the CDC
or the WHO.
Transmission of Covid-19 to persons from surfaces contaminated with the virus has not been documented. Transmission of coronavirus occurs much more commonly through respiratory droplets than through objects or materials which are likely to carry infection, such as clothes, utensils, and furniture. Current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials, according to the Centers for Disease Control. At this time testing has only been done on hard surfaces, as more information regarding textiles becomes available we will be sure to get information out to you.
The Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute (DLI) and The National Cleaners Assocation (NCA) have provided the following links:
Q: Can the virus be transferred from someone else’s clothes to my clothes?
A: There is little chance of this type of transfer occurring. First the virus only lives for a very short period outside the body. Second the cleaning process kills the virus on any garment and all garments.
Q: Can I get the virus from handling garments? Dry Cleaning Staff
A: The virus only lives for a very short time outside the body, so there is very little chance that you will contract the virus from touching people’s garments. Any case, our staff wear disposable gloves and allow the time to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer as frequently as they need to.
Q: Can I get the virus from handling linens?" Dry Cleaning Staff
A: There is little risk from handling any type of linen from the general public.
Q: How does coronavirus spread?
A: The coronavirus is thought to spread mainly from person to person. This can happen between people who are in close contact with one another. Droplets that are produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes may land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby, or possibly be inhaled into their lungs. Coronavirus can also spread from contact with infected surfaces or objects. For example, a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.
